About This Project.

Introduction:

In the heart of the Grand Canyon, where the beauty of nature converges with the remnants of human history, Marsh Development took on a crucial project in collaboration with the National Park Service. The GRCA – McKee Abatement project, executed between October 22, 2018, and April 1, 2019, aimed not only to revitalize the Old McKee Maintenance Facility but also to embody Marsh Development’s commitment to environmental stewardship and historical preservation.

Scope of the Project:

The McKee Abatement project embarked on a multifaceted journey to breathe new life into the Old McKee Maintenance Facility. The scope included:

  1. Diesel Removal: Marsh Development skillfully emptied approximately 5,000 gallons of diesel, mitigating environmental risks and ensuring the safe disposal of the fuel.

  2. Steel EST Removal: A 10,000-gallon double wall steel EST (Emergency Storage Tank) was dismantled and responsibly disposed of, marking a significant step towards environmental safety and compliance.

  3. Vehicle Lift System: The removal and proper disposal of a vehicle lift system showcased Marsh Development’s expertise in handling industrial equipment, contributing to the overall safety and cleanliness of the site.

  4. Contaminated Soil Removal: Environmental responsibility took center stage as Marsh Development addressed soil contamination, employing strategic measures to remove and dispose of the contaminated soil in adherence to environmental standards.

  5. Interior Partition Sheetrock/Stud Walls: The restoration of the Old McKee Maintenance Facility involved stripping away interior partition sheetrock and stud walls, ensuring that only features original to the structure remained, preserving the historical integrity of the facility.

Historical Preservation and Environmental Stewardship:

The McKee Abatement project was more than just a construction endeavor; it was a harmonious blend of historical preservation and environmental stewardship. By meticulously removing non-original features and contaminants, Marsh Development ensured that the Old McKee Maintenance Facility retained its historical charm while meeting contemporary safety and environmental standards.

Collaborative Excellence:

Working hand-in-hand with the National Park Service, Marsh Development exemplified the power of collaborative excellence. The project was a testament to the successful partnership between private industry and public service, showcasing how dedicated teamwork can breathe new life into historical landmarks.

Environmental Compliance and Safety:

Throughout the project’s timeline, Marsh Development remained dedicated to strict environmental compliance and safety protocols. The responsible removal and disposal of hazardous materials demonstrated the company’s commitment to not only meeting but exceeding environmental standards set by regulatory bodies.

Conclusion:

The GRCA – McKee Abatement project in the Grand Canyon is a testament to Marsh Development’s prowess in historical preservation and environmental stewardship. By successfully emptying diesel tanks, removing industrial equipment, and addressing soil contamination, the project not only revived the Old McKee Maintenance Facility but also contributed to the long-term sustainability and safety of the Grand Canyon’s unique ecosystem. This endeavor stands as a shining example of how construction projects can seamlessly blend with environmental responsibility and historical preservation, leaving a positive impact for generations to come.
